Application Re-Architecture

A leading non-profit provides a vital tool that supports survivors by collecting and analyzing key data, enabling caseworkers and supervisors to make informed, timely decisions. However, the platform's existing design had become a barrier to growth. The database architecture limited scalability, the survey application no longer met evolving requirements, and reporting capabilities were too constrained to deliver actionable insights. Caseworkers needed a more intuitive way to access, analyze, and act on data to better support survivors throughout their journey.

Nuvolant proposed a full re-architecture of the application into a modern, scalable, and user-friendly system. At the core, the database infrastructure was redesigned and optimized for improved data storage, retrieval, and analytical reporting. Enhancements were made to the survey application, building upon the existing third-party data framework but extending it to handle additional languages, updated interfaces, and new functionality.

To empower caseworkers and supervisors, Nuvolant designed a dynamic metrics and analytics dashboard using React. This web-based portal provided secure access to multiple views of key performance indicators, allowing users to explore trends, visualize the survivor journey, and generate reports in real time. The solution also included comprehensive documentation: one track focused on engineering details for ongoing maintenance, and another tailored to end users to ensure ease of adoption.

The technology stack combined proven reliability and modern flexibility, leveraging MS SQL Server for the data layer, React for the front-end survey and metrics portal, and DevOps tools such as Terraform and GitHub Actions/Jenkins for continuous integration and delivery.

With the platform re-architected, the client gained a robust and scalable foundation for its mission-critical work. Caseworkers and supervisors now have access to a user-friendly dashboard that surfaces meaningful insights, reducing the time spent navigating complex reports and increasing time spent supporting survivors. The improved database and survey application deliver cleaner, more reliable data, while the interactive metrics portal makes it easier to identify patterns and track progress.

The redesigned system positions the client to scale confidently into the future, ensuring the platform remains a powerful tool in the fight to support and empower survivors worldwide.
