Data Warehouse Modernization

A leading healthcare provider with over 800 locations faced growing challenges with its legacy SQL Server–based data warehouse. The environment was costly, difficult to scale, and unable to support the organization's need for near real-time analytics. As data volumes grew, leadership required a more agile, cost-effective platform capable of delivering timely insights to improve performance tracking and customer satisfaction.

Nuvolant launched a three-month initiative to modernize and optimize the company's data warehouse infrastructure. The team designed and implemented a new platform on AWS, evaluating both AWS SQL Server and AWS Aurora MySQL as target environments. To ensure scalability and performance, Nuvolant provisioned and configured multiple AWS environments, redesigned schemas and stored procedures, and migrated critical views from the legacy system. Where necessary, up to 100 SQL queries were rewritten, and MicroStrategy cubes and metrics were adapted to function seamlessly within the new architecture.

To deliver near real-time insights, Nuvolant built and deployed approximately 60 automated ETL pipelines using AWS Glue, DMS, and Apache Airflow, achieving updates every 5–15 minutes. Each pipeline was designed with robust error handling and monitoring, including comprehensive logging, retry logic, and real-time notifications.

Rigorous testing, validation, and user acceptance sessions ensured that data integrity, performance, and reporting accuracy were maintained throughout the migration. The engagement concluded with a structured go-live process supported by 30 days of hypercare and a complete documentation handoff.

The client emerged with a modern, cost-effective, and future-ready cloud-based data warehouse. The new environment provided near real-time analytics, enabling leadership to track franchise performance and customer satisfaction with unprecedented speed and accuracy.

The automation of data pipelines reduced latency, improved reliability, and minimized manual intervention, positioning the client to drive data-informed decision-making and scale confidently as the business continues to expand.
